Digitalisation

Seville pioneers in smart city development

Seville has been committed for more than a decade to the development of the smart city and its own transformation into a smart tourist destination, contributing to the development of the AENOR CTN-178 Smart Cities regulation, participating in networks of cities (Smart Tourist Destination Network - DTI - and Spanish Smart city Network – RECI-) or hosting national and international events (5G Forum or Tourism Innovation Summit).

The Seville Strategic Plan 2030 defines the Smart Community concept as an ecosystem in which business, social, institutional organisations, etc. participate in the development of projects linked to community challenges contributing to the development of economic, social and environmental balance.

To launch this vision Seville has the Digital Agenda of Seville 2030 and the Innovation Master Plan "Sevilla Smart City". These plans include actions to boost innovation and digitalisation of tourism throughout its value chain:

- Seville Tourist portal: multi-language, Geo-referenced, multi-channel, and multi-device. It offers information, digital content, an accessible route planner and a marketing channel for products

- Management platform for tourist information that includes the full experience of the trip: marketing, promotion and fidelity

- Hypermedia Promotion for the transformation of the entire format from paper to digital and its usage with smartphones and tablets.

- Software for the regulation of outdoor screens that permit content management displayed on touchscreens and towers.

- CRM software application for Sevilla City Office management contact.

- Integration of tourist services in the citizen/NFC card

Innovation and technology for the consolidation of Seville as an intelligent tourist destination

Seville has established itself as an intelligent tourist destination thanks to the implementation of innovative digital solutions for improving tourism and what it has to offer. Some of them have been recognized and included in the Digital Best Practices Guide for a new generation of DTI Network destinations:

- Info Tourist Web, comprehensive and modular management system to ease tourist management and management of destination information.

- Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and 3D reconstructions of the Alcazar of Seville thanks to 5G connectivity. Through an App, the user will be able to access the contents related to the history of the Alcazar in an innovative and intuitive way.

Seville European reference in FIWARE and Open Data

Seville has the leadership in the development of Fiware (public and open platform for the development of applications and internet services powered by the EU). Since 2014 Seville has boasted of a laboratory in the “Cartuja” Technological Science Park for the implementation of Smart solutions from these European standards. This laboratory also develops formative training to promote the potential of this technology among the Andalusian business frameworks. Seville companies such as Isotrol or Psykia are success stories.

Based on FIWARE technology, Seville launched in 2016 its open data portal which houses 465 datasets with information on transport, culture and leisure, urbanism, etc.

Seville also has an Urban Open Data Portal that allows measuring Seville's contribution to SDGs and a Smart Tourism System that integrates, publishes, and extracts significant information from the tourist destination.

Seville leads a laboratory within the DTI network specialising in measuring tourist flows and designing pilot artificial intelligence projects to manage said flows. As a member of RECI, it heads the infrastructure, 5G Standards, IoT and Multi-Service Networks working group.

Sustainability and tourism innovation around data

Due to the accumulated experience that Seville acquired, it has requested that the city be integrated in the Sustainable Tourism Observatory promoted by the INSTO network of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).

Integrated within the Smart Tourism Office (STO), Seville also has a Smart Tourist System that visualises the data and generates predictive analysis for decision making.

Seville is also tackling the transformation of its Smart Tourist System into the European Tourism Indicator System (ETIS).
