Seville welcomes 3 million visitors a year, lured by its superb cultural heritage (3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites) and by an open and cosmopolitan lifestyle that is showcased to the visitor through its celebrations and public spaces.
The last few years have been marked by exceptional success of tourism (18% of its GDP) followed by a steep drop in visitors due to the pandemic, which alerted us to the fragility of the tourism model. In 2019, we embarked on the process of reviewing our city model (Strategy Sevilla 2030), our tourism model (Sevilla Visitor Economy Strategy) and our city brand (A very famous yet very unknown Seville) in order to look at the social, economic, environmental and technological challenges that our city and our tourism model was facing. A new era of tourism in which residents and visitors share values and needs in a balanced way and which can be summed up in our vision: "Shared Seville: tourism that adds value, tourism that makes the city". With this strong statement, we are boosting the social, economic and environmental urban development of Seville through a set of innovative projects in accessibility, sustainability, digitisation, creativity and cultural heritage for this new era.
Our programme shows our commitment to SHARING the knowledge and values of our vision with all types of audiences. We have designed 4 types of events/activities:
As a model for Smart Tourism and the MICE sector, every year we host main Smart Tourism events (TIS, GSTC...) that bring in more than 15,000 congress participants., companies and professionals from the sector. We will use this opportunity to spread our Smart Tourism messages..
In support of the flagship events, we will hold meetings actions that aim to share the most innovative trends and practices of Smart Tourism to other audiences:
“Smart Talks”. These talks are directed at the local tourism ecosystem and citizens with support from academic and research institutions (US and JRC) to discuss and drive the new Sevilla Visitor Economy Strategy.
Cities Networks Events. Thanks to our Smart Tourism Destination status and active presence in cities networks we will host thematic or annual meetings inviting representatives from previous European Capitals of Smart Tourism Capital and shorlistedcandidate cities to foster a knowledge exchange between national and European public employees and policy makers.
We will share our vision of Smart Tourism and the values of Shared Seville at the main global tourism events for sector professionals (WTM, ITB, Fitur, etc.).
We have been recognised for our cultural expression (the Fair, Easter Week) and big events (European Film Festival). We will exploit the attention from visitors, residents and the media that these events attract to carry out marketing campaigns publicizing the values of Smart Tourism.
We will run specific activities for residents and visitors associated with official EU celebrations to highlight the European dimension of the award and to spread your Smart Tourism vision. The Smart Tourism Urban Lab will host an activity for entrepreneurs and start-ups.
